So, seeing the trailer for the new movie version made me quite happy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8J6Cjn06kA
I have read this book twice in the past, it has a very definite personality and most of all it gave me two characters I could finally relate to in classic and mainstream literature. I love Pride and Prejudice but I like Mr Rochester more than Mr Darcy for the mere fact..he talks. A lot! In fact sometimes he doesn't shut up and I like that. I like to see the opposite of the romantic brooding that I'm supposed to be attracted to as a woman.
Rochester isn't a perfect man nor is he "damaged goods" either. I didn't read Jane Eyre going yay Jane heal him! He has a very strong personality and is a mere human who makes mistakes.
And Jane. She goes through repression and then meets someone who just makes her fall in love. It's neither a feminist or anti feminist book to me, it's a story about a woman who finds happiness in her life. She finds fullfillment and sunshine inside. You know, her heart beats faster around Rochester, she has someone who is verbally and mentally on her high level and it's wonderful to see two strong people, who are from different areas in society find something, in there case it is love, but something that is just unbeatable.
I love the way the book is written and the best moment in any Jane Eyre adaptation when Rochester isn't madly flirting with her, is when he cries out her name. It's so sexy. So wild. All that nature and elements in tune with their bond. Seriously, I know I'm giving the impression that I think Eyre and Roch had great sex together, in fact I couldn't care less about their sex life, but their mental bond is something to die for.
I'm half and half on the new trailer for JE. Mostly I'm just excited it's out in March. Spring time. And it's nice to see the drama level rise and the gothic tone would look wonderful on the big screen which is definitely where I will be seeing it.

However I do think that Jane Eyre and Rochester had a great sexual life together LOL! Not that I don't understand what you are saying here. I just wanted to tease you. For me Jane Eyre has the perfect romance because it combines all that romantic notions of feeling the other is your other half and while this all sound too spiritual you have that great sexual attraction that makes the story more earthly and palpable.
